Top Questions About the BS in Marketing Degree at the Jindal School
Freshmen are encouraged to apply to UT Dallas early in their senior year of high school. For the purposes of admission and scholarship consideration, a student will be evaluated as a freshman if the student’s first matriculation at a college or university during a long semester after graduating from high school will occur at UT Dallas. Some admissions may require the completion of additional preparatory work before full-time enrollment in the University, and any deficiencies in the student’s high school coursework must be resolved before graduating from the University.
Prospective freshmen with transferable semester credit hours will be treated for the purposes of admission as first-time freshmen. Their work will be reviewed by the Undergraduate Admission Committee using the following criteria:
- SAT or ACT scores
- High school transcript, including grade-point average, class rank and college preparatory classes
- All post-secondary academic coursework

Students with test scores or class ranks outside the assured admission range may be eligible for admission upon individual review. Reviewed admission applicants are encouraged to respond to the essay topic on the Texas Common Application. Reviewed admission decisions are based on the applicant’s composite achievement profile, including:
- High school class rank and GPA
- Strength of academic preparation, including the number of courses taken, such as honors, advanced placement (AP), international baccalaureate (IB)
- SAT I or ACT scores
- Record of achievements, honors and awards
- Special accomplishments, work and service, both in and outside of school
- The essay topic, with emphasis on explanation of the details of the context of achievements
- Special circumstances that put academic achievements in context
Written recommendations are suggested but not required and can be helpful for students seeking admission on review or for students desiring fullest consideration for merit or merit/need-based scholarships. Applicants must have graduated from an accredited high school or satisfied equal requirements and should have completed the Recommended High School Program.

Students can specialize in industry specific marketing careers such as Business to Business, Consumer packaged goods, e-Business, International Marketing, Pharmaceutical Marketing, Sports Marketing, Technology Marketing, Retailing, Marketing Consulting and many more.
The Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing offers students holistic education and training in both the practical and theoretical aspects of marketing. During the program students are taught strategic, effective and ethical marketing practices as well as how to use the systems and analytical tools that are industry-standard in the profession. They are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed as marketing professionals who can identify and meet the needs of consumers.
The BS Marketing requires 120 credit hours of which 42 credit hours are in general education requirements, 15 hours in business preparatory courses, 21 hours in business core courses, 24 hours in marketing courses (15 hours in marketing core and 9 hours in marketing-guided electives) and 18 hours in electives. We have three student chapters: The American Marketing Association (AMA), the American Advertising Federation (AAF) and the Sales Club. These organizations provide a chance to meet and network with experienced industry officials, and participate in competitions and scholarship opportunities. Our marketing degree is taught using a combination of lectures, in-class projects, case study analyses, sales role playing and market research projects, with coursework and exams used for assessment. Our marketing degree allows students to gain a digital marketing certification and a sales certification.
